Car Insurance for Teen Drivers

It is not uncommon to find teen drivers nowadays. Most of the time, whether showing off or not, they are also the ones who drive expensive cars. Another question may come up regarding this matter. Is it financially wise to purchase a car insurance policy for teen drivers?

This car insurance related question can be answered easily if you look at how car insurance rate is determined. Mostly, car insurance rate is based on three things: age, driving experience, and driving record. Thus, it is wise for teen drivers to purchase car insurance policy through their parent´s name. Purchasing with their names is possible; however, the car insurance rate will be quite high. This is of course, an unnecessary thing to do.

After gaining enough clean driving record, the car insurance policy can be issued on their own names. Most companies consider 3 (three) years of clean driving record as good driving record. Before that, teen drivers should use their parent´s name in order to get affordable car insurance rate.

After obtaining good driving record, young drivers can get several discounts from car insurance companies. The discounts may differ from company to company. However, most car insurance companies provides at least 3 (three) discounts for young driver. Driver training education discount will be given for those completing driving training course. Good grade discount is given for students who achieve 3.0 GPA or above. Resident student discount is given to those who live over 100 miles away from their parents.

There is one last thing to remember when shopping for car insurance. Car type. Teen driver combined with expensive car can results in incredibly high car insurance rate. High performance car or sport car is something teen driver should avoid when trying to get better car insurance rate. Sometimes this type of car may not even qualify for standard car insurance. Teen driver with no driving record, sport car, and special car insurance, a complete combination to high car insurance rate.
