Car Insurance on Rental Cars

There are times when you want to rent a car. If you are on vacation, business appointment, or when your car is being repaired, you will need to rent a car. You may need it for a short time only or even longer time. No matter what the situation is you will be faced with a decision whether to take the car insurance at the car rental agency or not. If you take the car insurance you are afraid that you have to pay the unnecessary car insurance policy. If you do not take the car insurance you are faced with a greater financial lost if something happens.

To make matter worst, most of the time, you have to pay a very high rate for the rental car insurance fee because you will pay unnecessary coverage. This is mostly caused by the unknowledgeable car rental agency.

How to prevent this unnecessary rental car insurance fee?

What you need to do is spend some time to analyze what kind car insurance you already have. Most of the time, your car insurance policy is more than enough to cover your rental car if there is something happens. It may varies from policy to policy and from company to company but the same coverage may apply to the car insurance policy’s name, you. What this means to you is you do not need to apply new car insurance for you rented car. Your current car insurance will cover things up for you.

Of course you need to check out with your current car insurance company about this kind of coverage. You don’t want to reject the rental car insurance without having the coverage from your current car insurance, do you?

It’s not a bad idea to have rental car coverage if your current car insurance doesn’t cover this kind of situation. Even if your current car insurance policy doesn’t cover your rented car, you do not necessarily always take the car insurance from the car rental agency. There are some companies that have special customized policy for rental cars. Just shop around to get the best price for the coverage.

I'd use American Express for rental bookings and for $14.99 I am comprehensively covered for the entire rental period !!!
AMEX does the basic LDW coverage without the $14.99. charge.

I was pleasantly surprised to avail this feature. Only hassle was that I had to call AMEX to enable this feature for the rental period.

And its the same 14.99 whether you rent out for a day or for a week or 10 days !!

Wonder why AMEX does not advertise it openly.
