Car Insurance Underinsured and Uninsured Coverage

You may or may not have heard abut underinsured coverage and uninsured coverage in car insurance policy. Do you know what it means?

Many people who have been seriously hurt in a car accident were struck by drivers who
don´t have enough coverage on the car insurance policy or even don´t have car insurance at all.

If the driver only has small car insurance coverage, the victim will only get that small coverage no matter how big his / her own car insurance coverage or how serious the injury is. If the driver has no car insurance at all, the victim will not get any coverage at all. There is nothing more devastating than being in this condition, isn´t there? Both of the case will happen if the victim doesn´t have the underinsured and uninsured coverage in his / her own car insurance policy.

So, the underinsured coverage will cover you to the maximum of your car insurance liability if other driver who struck you has lower car insurance liability than you need for the treatment. The uninsured coverage will cover you when the other driver doesn´t have car insurance at all or if the identity of the other car is unknown, e.g. stolen.

This underinsured coverage and uninsured coverage can be added to almost all car insurance policies. Best of all, they are not expensive. If so, why doesn´t everybody have them?

Sadly, it is because they buy directly from car insurance company in order to get cheaper price, not from a car insurance broker or agent. If you buy directly from the company, you don´t have sufficient advice that matches your condition. Even though it´s not always the case, most of the time, this is the problem with car insurance policy with no underinsured and uninsured coverage. You just buy car insurance, not the advice all along.

Bottom line? Directly check you car insurance policy. If you don´t have the underinsured coverage and uninsured coverage, renew or make changes your car insurance policy directly. Ask the car insurance company if the company doesn´t mention them.
